The collective was created in 1999. At that time it was called cadet dance collective. During this period children grew up and now it is called youth dance collective. The same members have been dancing since the beginning of the group. The repertoire includes jolly and dashing folk dances.

The Youth Dance Collective „Smilga“ actively participates in the events organised by Lazdijai Cultural House and various projects. One of the most important project is children and youth summer active rest camp organising, where participate children and youth from Alytus county. This project is becoming traditional.

In 2007 for the third time in Lazdijai was International children and youth folk-dance festival „Atidarykime šokių skrynelę“. Here eagerly come children and youth folk-dance collectives and guests from our country, Belarussia and Poland.

In 2007 youth folk-dance collective participated in Lithuanian Song Festival „Būties ratu”.
